Surprises at the Pumpkin Farm

We traveled to the "pumpkin farm" today. Well... technically it isn't a pumpkin farm (they don't grow well down here in the deep south)... they are shipped in from places further north. However, we thought we would go somewhere where we haven't been and pick out our Halloween pumpkins in slightly more authentic conditions. After driving an hour to get there, we were surprised.

First surprise was there were beautiful horses there. Right away, Thomas & Abbigail were so excited and thrilled that there were horses at the pumpkin farm. Who would've known? Matter of fact, neither of them were very much interested in anything else but the horses for awhile. But wouldn't you know - Thomas didn't want to take a pony ride at all? I have to say... I was surprised.

Finally, the troops came around to looking at pumpkins. I mean - that is why we drove all the way out there, right? Here's where the next surprise was - they were just neatly laid out in groups based on size (I'm sure for price reasons). Huh. Not even put out in a field for an authentic look. Oh well. I guess Thomas & Abby just think pumpkins grown in the green grass in neat groups?

I thought I would be able to convince Thomas to go on the tractor pulled hay ride - but again, wasn't interested in it at all. He really was just fascinated with the horses. He was talking about their big eyes, nose, how tall they were, what color they were, what big teeth they had and how soft & fury their long snout was.
When everyone finally focused on the pumpkins, the picking started to happen. At first, Abby went too big! The pumpkin weighed more than her I'm sure!
Thomas quickly realized that he wanted one that he could carry by himself (and that he could paint next weekend).
Abby also realized that having one that was much smaller than her was also much easier to handle. A petite pumpkin for my petite pumpkin!
Thomas ended up helping Daddy find a pumpkin that was just right for Mommy & one for Daddy! These are the two that will be carved up... the other two will be painted by my little artists!
The final pick!
Pumpkin Kisses!
A final surprise... Daddy bought some cotton candy for all of us to share. Oh, the delight by my two little munchkins!

A final goodbye
