Just call me "Tom"

It has started.
I guess I should have expected it, although not this soon.
Maybe when he was a tween or even a teenager.
But kindergarten?
It's one thing to have your younger sisters calling you "Tommy" because that's what they can pronounce, but it's another thing when outsiders start using a different name.
His teacher mentioned it in passing but I didn't think much of it.
However, in the last two weeks, almost every single school paper has come home
with the name "Tom" on it.
He is quietly telling people to call him "Tom" as opposed to his chosen and given name.
He will always be called Thomas by Brian and I, but I guess the rest of the world is a different story.
I knew it would happen eventually despite my opposition.

They really need to stop this growing up madness. They have some nerve.
