Abby had her 3-year old check up this week and the stats are in:
weight - 29 lbs (33 percentile)
height - 35.9 in (24 percentile)
In the last year, Abby has grown tremendously... both literally and figuratively. She has gained 5 lbs and 7.5 inches on her tiny frame. She is no longer on the bottom rung of the growth curve. Those of you who have known her, know that she has always been in the 5th-15th percentile for her age. Looks like she is finally climbing her way up the ladder & catching up! Abby has also found her way into size 3 clothes (although much of her size 2s still fit just fine).
In terms of her growth socially and verbally... she also has turned a big corner. Abby is quite social now. Loves to say "hi" to people and even likes to introduce herself and her brother & sister to people. She loves to people watch also! She is active & loves to run, jump, roll and swing (hence the gymnastics she has been in last year & this year again). She is an imitator also... if you are doing it, she wants to try and do it. She is finally interested in riding her tricycle up and down the sidewalk (and from time to time wants to put her bike helmet on and ride her big girl bike). She knows her letters in her name and we are working on her writing A-B-B-Y. Verbally, Abby has done a 180. This time last year, Abby barely had 10 muttered & unclear words to her repertoire. Now, Abby is talking in sentences, adding words to her vocabulary on a daily basis, asks questions, and is confident when she is talking (even when she is thinking about what she wants to say & carefully choosing her words). Make no mistake about it, she is not quite up to her 3-year old peers, but she is full steam ahead & will catch them soon enough.
Abby has been potty trained for about 4-5 months and just gave up her night-time NUKs. I would call all of that HUGE! She is certainly a big girl now! There are days that I look at her and think about how far she has come... especially since we have moved up here to Alaska and are far away from all the loved ones she had back in Florida. To a large extent, it is true what they say about giving a young bird space & opportunity... their wings will spread & they will learn to fly.
