Every day with Ziggy brings a smile to my face. He wags his tail despite the obvious pain. He snuggles up to you to feel your rub & pet him. He can't wait to have a "good boy" treat when we walk through the door in the afternoons. He is the most loyal dog and only wants our unconditional love.
Zig - we love you. You captured our hearts 6 years ago when you were just a homeless island dog in the Azores. You had us (especially Daddy) wrapped around your paw from the beginning, despite your craziness and you chewing up all of my shoes. You stunned us when we brought Thomas home from the hospital and almost instantly you became this calm, affectionate and protective dog. And from that day, almost 4 years ago, we have added Abbigail to our clan and are about to add Marilyn in just a few days, and you have allowed them to snuggle, climb on, touch, pull and even ride on you. You are simply wonderful. A friend and confidante, no doubt.
But the sad news about Zig is his condition seems to worsen by the day. The tumor in his leg is growing and his pain is becoming more and more noticeable. The swelling is almost the size of a small baseball. He practically walks on 3 legs now. He holds his limp leg up higher now and has difficulty getting comfortable in any position while he lays or even sits. We continue to give him a daily pain pill, but to us, he is starting to suffer and suffering is the last thing we want for Zig. I feel like Brian and I are at a crossroads. A crossroad, the necessary decision that must be made, is a place that Brian and I don't want to be, but we also know that it is inevitable.
Zig... we love you.

Oh sweetie, I am so very sorry. I know how hard this is and I hope you can find some peace. You have given Zig a loving, safe and amazing home. Hugs my friend, big hugs and a scratch on the ears for Ziggy.
