UC Davis & Jelly Beans

The third day we were in California (Monday), Erin's spring break from University of California at Davis had come to an end and we decided to help bring her back to school.  We loaded up in the van and drove the 1+ hour up north with all of her clean laundry and goodies she was taking back to school.  We even stopped at the local Trader Joe's to make sure she was stocked up as every college freshmen should be.
After dropping off all of her stuff in her dorm room, and having the kids run wild on the campus grassy areas (I'm sure we got some funny looks), Erin told the kids she had a surprise to show them.  The kids hitched a ride and we headed around the corner.  Literally, around the corner...
... to a cow farm.  It's actually all part of the Agricultural studies at UC Davis, plus they have one of the top ranked Veterinarian Schools in the nation here too.  Anyways, it was so cool.  The kids called the cows, "Erin's cows."  It was especially neat to be on a really big, wide-open campus and then walk a block or two and be in a very rural area.  I loved it.

Anyway, back to the cows.  There were a ton of them.  All chewing their hay and curd.  It was a great teachable moment with Thomas & Abby about why we tell them to keep them mouth closed while they are chewing their food.  The kids just cracked up at how loud they were eating and how they could see all the food in their mouth.
After walking down "cow alley" that you see above here, we noticed a camera man (for a local news station out of Sacramento) situated at the end filming footage.  After explaining that they were doing an investigation report on hormones in dairy milk, he proceeded to ask my Aunt Trisha some questions on film (thank goodness because she was far more well spoken and eloquent than I could have ever tried to be).  He captured some more pictures of the kids and then told us there would be a chance it would be aired sometime this week on the news channel.  Unfortunately, we never were able to see it but it was fun knowing we might have been on TV.
My baby next to the other babies.
She was amazed at the cows.
Although they were cuties, mine was much more adorable.
The kids loved how they could just walk right up to the cages and see the baby (and Mama) cows up close and personal.  And of course, Thomas noticed the oder of the cows too.  He said it reminded him of Marilyn's stinky diapers.  Amen to that.
Instead of saying "hi!" or how are you? to the cows -
Thomas and Abby's favorite way to greet the cows was,
"Mooooooo are you?"
When they started to hear some "mooooos" back from the cows - they giggled with delight!

For a real college campus experience, we decided to eat at the dining facility nearest Erin's dorm.  With everything to chose from and all you can eat... it was a win-win with the kids in tow.  And boy was I surprised that they even had a highchair for us to use with Marilyn.
Next stop that day was to visit the Jelly Belly Bean Factory (situated between Davis and Travis AFB).  We had hopes of taking the production tour and indulging in endless free tasting of the little yummies, but to our dismay there was no production on this particular day AND the line was ridiculously long.  I guess with it being the week of Easter... everyone wanted to be ready candies to fill the Easter baskets with.  So, we hit up the store for some goodies and let the kids enjoy!  To them, it made no difference... they got candy.

On our way out of the factory, Thomas turned to me when he saw the Jelly Belly Bean RV campers and asked if we could buy one of those today?
