Friday Night Leftovers (Is it Spring yet? edition)

  • Friday is here!  Yeah!  Best day of the week.  Sometimes the anticipation of the weekend is even better than the actual weekend.  Right?
  • It seems as if Spring is upon us (again) up here in Alaska... daytime temps are reaching into the 40s & the sunshine has been especially bright!  Almost all of the snow on our roof is melted & our driveway & sidewalk are bare cement!  I'm thinking this is a sure-fire sign that Mother Nature is going to give us a late-Winter snow storm to keep us all on our toes.
  • Speaking of Spring, the kids have been on countdown mode for the last two weeks.  Now that we are down to single digits for our Spring Break getaway, all of us can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
  • As if we didn't have enough going on in our middle-of-the-week evening schedules, we finally agreed to let Abby sign up for ballet.  With a quick trip down to the local dance store, she is now outfitted with pink everything... leotard, tights & little ballerina shoes. Saying that she is excited is an understatement.  She is stoked.
  • With Brian's retirement closing in on us this summer, the reality that we are finally moving out of base housing for good is now starting to sink in.  I've even had several dreams about walk in closets, double vanities in my master bathroom, and a real pantry.  The end is near, friends.  Can you hear that?  *Ahhhhhh
  • Brian just booked our 10-year anniversary trip for later this year to one of our favorite spots! We'll see you in November, Key West!
  • I haven't mentioned this in the last few weeks, but Thomas was selected to be a part of his school's Talent Show after his dance auditions earlier this month.  Whether it was because we were busy or I was in denial about how much time "we" had to prepare, the time snuck up on me and before I knew it, the time had come for rehearsals.  Having done nothing to prepare (no costumes, no practicing or even choreographing) and facing another doozy of a week, I decided to have a conversation with Thomas about the situation at hand.  What I thought was going to be an emotional and difficult talk, instead turned out to be a short & simple one - Thomas quickly said he preferred to be at soccer this week instead of two nights of rehearsals & the final Talent Show today.  Uh.  Much easier than I anticipated.
