Unexpected Snow Day

It has been rather warm lately up here in the arctic frontier - by that I mean in the upper 20s & lower 30s.  Actually one day it even made it up to the mid-40s.  I thought I was going to have to put on my shorts and flip-flops for a moment.  So, imagine our surprise when we woke this morning to see 6-7" of fresh new snow covering our neighborhood.  Brian and I didn't think much of it - he got to work on shoveling the driveway while I got breakfast and coffees ready.

Some short time after he left for work, we found out (via email from the school district) that schools would be closed today due to deteriorating conditions on the roads.  Here I thought that snow days were so few and far between.  So, I quickly called Thomas' preschool to find out their status (only open for emergency essential parents to drop off kids) & to let them know that he would not be there today.  Following that, I called and cancelled Abby's speech session.  Here we were... about to enjoy our first snow day with no school.

It started with the GingerBread Choo-Choo Train
(lots of candy was eaten by my 2 little helping elves as they decorated it)
We headed outside to shovel and enjoy the fresh snow.
Abby stood guard, as she usually does, as the supervisor...
... while Thomas & I shoveled the driveway and sidewalks
(another 2" fell after Daddy left for work)
Someone claimed he was pooped afterwards.

And then we loaded up in Daddy's meat sled and hooked it up to Mommy...
and it became a fun ride around the neighborhood.  And yes, I said "meat sled."  Apparently it is a must for any hunter.  Who would have known it would come in handy for my 3 little munchkins.

It really was a good day with the kids.  I even got a great picture of the kids for the Christmas card.
Wish I could share that one right now... but that will have to wait until it comes to you in the mail.
