Alaska State Fair

Last weekend we hit up the biggest thing happening this time of year... the Alaska State Fair which takes place in Palmer (about 35 minutes away).  I've never been to a state fair, only county and local fairs & festivals.  Let me tell you, I think most of Alaska's 600,000 residents were there on Sunday with us.  It was huge.  Awesome food, awesome desserts, lots & lots of crafts (especially pottery & art which is what we are always interested in looking at) and rides for all ages.  It was an absolutely gorgeous day to be there also... clear blue skies & 65 degrees.  I am certain this will be an annual visit for us for sure.

Thomas rode on a Merry-Go-Round with real, live horses.
Abby was our food taster all day long... shrimp, crab cakes, cheesecake in a cone (yum, my favorite), and this sampler cup of BBQ (which I think was her favorite).
This was so cool.  It was a little race cars track (not sure if they were battery or gas operated) for little kids.  The problem was Thomas was about 2 inches too short to ride.  He was disappointed for sure but LOVED watching all the kids race around the track (although they weren't going super fast for safety reasons).  I'm sure this will be a ride he will be on next year when we return back for a visit.
 No words needed here...
 He loves pirates
Of course, he also loved this.  Him and Daddy cruised around one of many ATV seller lots at the fair.  Thomas eyed this one and decided it fit him & he must have it.  Daddy told him it was a little early but he would definitely get to ride on plenty while we live in Alaska.  The little boy Thomas is talking to also loved the ATV and the two of them took turns jumping on & off together.
 Loved this BBQ & smoker
Didn't try this dessert, but thought it ranked up there with the most unusual food at the fair.  Actually, can bacon be considered a dessert?
 The Hecks enjoying the fair...
... and the scenery!
