Brian, and the entire 823 RHS, returned from Afghanistan & Iraq only 10 months ago. Usually the guys are home for about 11 months before they head back out for another 7-8 month deployment. We have done two back-to-back tours like that (both with Thomas & Abby). Just this past weekend, the squadron headed back out the door for another long deployment which will keep them away from their loved ones once again. The only real reason that Brian is not gone is because we have orders to Alaska. I'm afraid that the truth of the matter is that if we didn't, he would most likely be gone and wouldn't be around to see the birth of his baby girl. I'm so thankful that we are "whole" and have Brian here (despite short TDY trips that he goes on).
My heart hurts for the families who just had to say goodbye once again. My heart hurts for all of those Daddies and Mommies who won't be home to kiss their little ones goodnight and spend time with their spouses. Please say a few extra prayers for the families who have recently been separated due to their service to our country; for families who are awaiting their loved ones return in the very near future; and sadly, for families who have lost their loved ones because the ultimate sacrifice was given for our country.
